State of the Union Address

SOTU 2014

Every year the President of the United States gives a speech before both houses of Congress.  This speech is known as the State of the Union Address.  This speech is given to fulfill the responsiblity given to the President in Article II, Section 3 of the United States Constitution.

The State of the Union Address tells Congress what problems and issues he believes they should be passing legislation on.  When the President gives the State of the Union of Address he is influencing the lawmaking process and therefore acting in the role chief legislator.
